CAQ government refuses to condemn violence in sport

By Patrice Bergeron, The Canadian Press

The CAQ government refused on Wednesday to condemn violence in hockey.

Liberal MNA Enrico Ciccone, himself a former National League Hockey tough guy, tabled the motion to recognise the harmful effects of violence and fighting in sport.

The motion also called for the condemnation of any comments that advocate violence in sport.

Ciccone was specifically targeting Quebec Premier François Legault, who has maintained that fights were sometimes justified.

CAQ deputy parliamentary leader Mathieu Lévesque refused consent to debate the motion.
