“The community is shocked. Heavily shocked,” said Shaikh Imran Shariff, Imam of Mosquée Madani, on the shooting death of 20-year-old Arab-Montrealer Mouaade Fakhoury. The young man is the city's fourth murder victim of the year.

The Arab-Muslim community in Montreal is grieving after the shooting death of a 20-year-old man.

Mouaade Fakhoury is the city’s fourth murder victim of the year.

He was shot outside his home on Wednesday night and police have not revealed any motive in connection to this case – or made any arrests so far.

“The community is shocked. Heavily shocked,” said Shaikh Imran Shariff, Imam of Mosquée Madani – who knew the young man and his family.

Fakhoury was found around 9 p.m. when a 911 call came in about a man lying on the ground near a vehicle on Cousineau street, close to Laurin – in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

At the scene, paramedics found that the victim had been struck by at least one bullet to his upper body.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition – where he later died.

The Imam said the victim was recently married and preparing for a family trip to Morocco.

“Mouaade and the entire family – they were people of this mosque and many mosques around this area,” explained Imam Shaikh Imran Shariff. “The community is very shocked, and they’re very disturbed. And we’re hoping that the government will do something to remove, to put an end to gun violence.”

A Montreal Police investigation into this case is ongoing.
