85-year-old Quebec inmate apprehended by Toronto police after escape from Archambault

An 85-year-old Quebec inmate – who escaped from the minimum-security unit at Archambault Institution in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines – was found Monday night.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 24, inmate Ricardo Vilches was apprehended by the Toronto Police Service – hours after he escaped.

“Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” said Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) in a press release.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Vilches reportedly escaped from the multi-level security federal institution – located north of Montreal – after staff discovered he was not accounted for around noon on Monday.

He was serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder.
