The Old Montreal building that went up in flames last fall, killing a mother and her seven-year-old daughter, has reportedly been sold.
Lawyer Émile Benamor sold the three-storey building on Notre-Dame Street for $2.4 million to the PHI Foundation for Contemporary Art, according to TVA Nouvelles.
TVA reports Benamor purchased the property in 2007 for $1.35 million – one of about 20 properties owned by the lawyer.
The building was heavily damaged and considered unusable after the fatal Oct. 4, 2024, fire that killed French national Léonor Geraudie, 43, and her daughter Vérane Reynaud-Geraudie.
Two men, aged 18 and 20, were charged with second-degree murder and arson.

Benamor still owns the Old Montreal building that burned in March 2023, killing seven people.

Five days after the deadly Oct. 4 blaze, Benamor’s nearby law office was riddled with bullets. Three individuals aged 17, 19 and 20 were arrested.
The following week, on Oct. 17, a vehicle was set on fire at Benamor’s Dorval home.
CityNews reached out to Benamor’s lawyer Alexandre Bergevin for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
