SAQ to stop selling American products

The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) will remove all American products, both wine and spirits, from its shelves and website.
The Legault government made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
“The government is also asking the SAQ to stop supplying grocery stores, agencies, bars and restaurants with American alcoholic beverages,” reads the press release issued by Premier François Legault’s office.
According to the SAQ’s 2023 annual report, “still wines” of American origin represented 6.8 per cent of the market share.
France and Italy account for 56 per cent of market share in Quebec.
At the beginning of February, Finance Minister Eric Girard had announced that it had asked the SAQ to remove all U.S. products from its shelves, but the directive was cancelled following the one-month pause on tariffs.
