More wet weather for Montreal, North Shore under rainfall warning

By News Staff

While many are enjoying their spring break this week, maybe they aren’t really enjoying the weather — but it seems like it’ll be slightly better than expected.

Yes, more rain is forecasted to fall over Montreal but Environment and Climate Change Canada now projecting five to 10 millimetres of rain to hit the city on Wednesday and five millimetres on Thursday — compared to the previously forecasted 15 to 30 millimetres that was expected to fall over those two days.

The weather agency also lifted their special weather statement of freezing rain for Montreal as that happened overnight.

“No warning in effect for the city itself,” said Peter Kimbell, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada. “There is a warning in effect for north of the city, so north of Laval, we do have a rainfall warning for there.”

“That’s because we’re at the 25 millimetre threshold for rain warning north of the city, along the North Shore.

Aside from the rain on Thursday, periods of snow are expected at night with a low of minus 6.

“Thursday, late afternoon, Thursday evening, the temperatures will go below zero with the west wind, so it’s going to be a windy evening and that will make for icy conditions, of course, around the area and on the roads, but of course the city will be, I’m sure we will be salting, so that should be mitigated,” Kimbell explained.

“There might be a bit of light snow activity as well,” he added. “I think we’re saying periods of snow Thursday night, but shouldn’t be a lot of snow, should just be maybe a couple centimetres at most and we’ll be back into the colder temperatures that we’ve been used to for the last little while.”

Come Friday, cloudy with a high of 1°C.

A low of -8°C at night is expected and 30 per cent chance of flurries.

Then a mix of sun and cloud for Saturday with a high of -5°C.

A sunny Sunday in the forecast met with a high of -3°C, then cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries at night.

Those cloudy conditions and 60 percent chance of that white stuff falling from the sky is also expected for Monday and Tuesday.
