Nine people will need new housing in Montreal following a major fire that broke out early Saturday morning.
The first incident occurred in a three-story residential building shortly after 3 a.m. in the Ville-Marie borough, on Frontenac Street, between Hochelaga and Latulippe Streets.
According to Alain Laflamme, section chief at the Montreal Fire Department, 48 vehicles and nearly 150 firefighters were called to the scene.
The fire started on the third floor and spread to the roof structure, raising concerns about the fire spreading to other buildings, said Laflamme to CityNews.
The Red Cross will assist the 9 tenants who lost their homes due to fire and water damage.
The second fire broke out in a pizzeria at 3:20 a.m. in Verdun, on the L’Eglise street.
30 vehicles and 100 firefighters were called to the scene.
The two damaged apartments on the second and third floors above the pizzeria were unoccupied, said Laflamme.
