Measles exposure confirmed at Canadiens game on March 3 in Montreal

A case of measles has been confirmed at a Montreal Canadiens hockey game on March 3.

A public health warning was issued Monday, saying an individual who had measles “during their infectious period” attended the hockey game at the Bell Centre.

Anyone who was sitting or working in the red sections 111 to 117, as well as anyone working at Tim Hortons and Pizza Pizza at the Bell Centre, may have been exposed.

Despite the limited area, Santé Montréal says it is possible that anyone who was at the game on March 3 might have been exposed and should monitor for symptoms until March 24.

Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red and light-sensitive eyes, and pimples and/or redness on the skin.

Anyone who has measles is contagious four days before to four days after the appearance of pimples and/or redness. The virus also lasts from one to two weeks.

Additionally, anyone who may have been exposed should check to see if they are protected against measles. If you are not protected against measles, it is recommended that you receive a vaccine or an antibody injection.

If you think you have measles, stay home and call Info Santé at 811. If you need to go to a clinic or hospital, call ahead to let them know you’re visiting. Wear a mask when you leave your home. When you arrive at the clinic or hospital, tell a staff member immediately that you think you have measles.
