Residential fire in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve leaves two families homeless

A fire broke out in an apartment in a low-income housing project in Montreal’s Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.

A fire alarm was reportedly triggered a little before 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Several firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

Strong winds complicated the operations.

Due to the extent of the damages, two families will not be able to return to their homes.

A large security perimeter has been erected to secure the premises.

Firefighters have not ruled out arson and the case will be transferred to the Montreal police department.
