Quebec unionized ferry workers launch three-day strike

Unionized ferry workers in Quebec have launched a three-day strike, shutting down three routes and limiting service on two others.

The Québec – Lévis, Matane – Baie-Comeau, and Sorel – Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola ferries will remain closed until Wednesday, while Tadoussac – Baie-Sainte-Catherine and L’Isle-aux-Coudres – Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive ferries will operate at reduced service.

Metallos, the union representing the workers, says negotiations have stalled, they’ve been without a contract for two years and without a pay raise for three.

Talks are set for Monday, but if no progress is made, the union warns that a full, unlimited strike could follow.
