Fire in two-storey building in Pointe-aux-Trembles leaves two families without a home

A residential building was engulfed in flames Sunday night in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough of Montreal.

According to initial information, the fire broke out outside before spreading inside the two-storey building on Marion Street, near 96th Ave.

A total of 45 firefighters were mobilized to the scene to try to control and extinguish the blaze.

The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) said around 10 p.m., five families were evacuated.

Three families were able to return to their homes shortly after. Two families are without a home as their “home obtained fire and water damage,” said William Murray, spokesperson for the SIM.

Firefighters were able to control the flames shortly after 11 p.m., said Murray.

The Red Cross was on to the scene to help out the families.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
