$3.5M worth of cocaine seized at CN’s Taschereau Yard in Montreal

Around $3.5 million worth of cocaine was seized by Border Services officers on March 19 in Montreal.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says officers were contacted by CN police, and were asked to inspect a train container from Mexico that had arrived at the Taschereau Yard.

A search of the railcar found new vehicles within and during a further inspection of those vehicles, officers were able to find contraband hidden under the carpets – which the CBSA lab confirmed was cocaine.

In total, officers found and seized 119 bricks containing 142 kg of cocaine – which has an estimated value of around $3.5 million.

“This major cocaine seizure is the direct result of the diligent, collaborative work of our Border Services officers, intelligence services, chemists, dog handlers and partners. This collaboration is another example of our shared commitment to protecting Canadians and dismantling criminal organizations,” said Eric Lapierre, Regional Director General, Quebec Region, CBSA in a statement.

With the assistance of Montreal Police, the CBSA turned the cocaine over to the Sûreté du Québec, which will conduct an investigation.
