By News Staff

An elderly couple was injured during an assault involving a gunshot Tuesday evening in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough.

Around 9:30 p.m., Montreal Police (SPVM) were alerted about a gunshot heard on Descartes Street, near Couture Boulevard in an outdoor private parking lot.

Officers located the two victims — a 71-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man — with upper body injuries caused by physical force.

The couple, who were not shot, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to initial reports, the SPVM said that the couple was attacked by more than one suspect, with at least one shot fired during the incident.

They added that the suspects fled in a vehicle after the attack before officers arrived to the scene.

As of Wednesday morning, the motive for the attack remains unknown and witnesses were interviewed by police, who also checked if surveillance cameras captured the scene.

No arrests have been made so far. An investigation is ongoing.
