Quebec adopts a decree to increase Hydro’s residential rate by 3%

By Patrice Bergeron, The Canadian Press

The Legault government has blocked the planned residential electricity rate increase at 3 per cent.

The Cabinet adopted a decree to this effect on Wednesday, while the Régie de l’énergie had decided on a 3.6 per cent increase.

However, Premier François Legault had indicated that he opposed the Régie’s proposal.

In a press briefing Wednesday afternoon following the cabinet meeting, Energy Minister Christine Fréchette indicated that the commercial and industrial sectors would see an additional increase to offset the 0.6 per cent cut from the residential rate increase.
