Work to resume Monday on Montreal’s Sainte-Catherine Street West

Major work on Sainte-Catherine Street West, between Peel and Mansfield, will resume on March 31.

The City of Montreal said that this year, work will also extend to Mansfield Street.

“The first planned projects involve replacing the gas lines at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street West and Mansfield Street,” they said in a work notice. “As well as rehabilitating the water main on Mansfield Street, between Sainte-Catherine Street West and René-Lévesque Boulevard.”

Next, leveling and surfacing work on Mansfield Street will be carried out between Sherbrooke Street and René-Lévesque Boulevard, they explained.

Adding that the contractor will also resume, when weather conditions are favorable, resurfacing the surface of Sainte-Catherine Street West.

The popular downtown strip has been under construction since 2023.

This major project has a $70-million budget and is expected to be completed this fall.

New traffic obstructions

Sainte-Catherine Street West:

  • Between Stanley and McGill College Streets: complete closure
  • Between Drummond and Stanley Streets: local traffic for deliveries only
    Closure of the intersection of Mansfield and Sainte-Catherine Streets West

Mansfield Street:

  • Between René-Lévesque Boulevard West and Cathcart Street: local traffic for deliveries only up to the work zone
  • Between de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Sainte-Catherine Street West: two-way traffic will be arranged to accommodate local traffic

Cathcart Street:

  • Between McGill College Avenue and Mansfield Street: local traffic only;

Peel Street:

  • Partial obstruction of the right lane between Rue du Square Dorchester and Sainte-Catherine Street West

Pedestrian traffic arrangements will be made to ensure access to buildings at all times, the City said. Signage will indicate detour routes.
