Light snow in Montreal Saturday, freezing rain warning for Sunday

By News Staff

Montreal was hit with light snow overnight and into the morning, a sign that winter weather remains in late March.

Environment Canada forecasted close to 5 cm, but in parts of the city just a thin layer was seen covering sidewalks, parked vehicles and properties.

The temperature mid-morning was hovering around -5°C, but it felt like -13°C with the windchill.

The forecast tonight calls for increasing cloudiness near midnight with similar temperatures, a low of -5°C, wind chill -13°C.

Environment Canada has put out a freezing rain warning for Sunday, about 5 to 10 mm are expected.

They add that surfaces such as walkways, roads and parking lots may become icy and slippery, and that ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Environment Canada is also asking drivers to be prepared to adjust their driving with changing road conditions.
