Major construction resumes on Sainte-Catherine Street West in Montreal

Construction on Sainte-Catherine Street West, between Peel and Mansfield, is set to resume on Monday, with significant closures in effect, including Metcalfe Street between Dorchester Square and Place Mount Royal, until later this year.

The work, which began in 2023, includes replacing sewer and water pipes, reconstructing and widening concrete sidewalks, and greening the area.

Other improvements include the renewal of lighting, traffic signals, and telecommunication systems, along with the installation of new street furniture and the creation of social and animation areas, such as patios.

The project will also include upgrading underground public utility systems, including those of the Commission des services électriques de Montréal (CSEM), Bell, and Énergir. The street will also be resurfaced with concrete pavement.

The project aims to update the ageing underground infrastructure, enhance pedestrian spaces, and improve the overall user experience.

It is also an opportunity to improve the living environment for residents in the area.

The project is scheduled for completion later this year.
