SPVM arrests suspect in armed attack on elderly couple in Saint-Leonard

Montreal Police (SPVM) have arrested a suspect in connection with an armed assault of an elderly couple in Saint-Leonard last month.

A 71-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man were assaulted on March 25 at around 9:30 p.m. – as they returned to their home. It happened in an outdoor private parking lot.

A 29-year-old suspect was apprehended last Friday night, March 28.

“Searches in the Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles borough and on the South Shore also enabled investigators to seize several items of evidence,” wrote the SPVM in a press release.

The suspect appeared at the Montreal courthouse and was charged with intentionally discharging a firearm, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, pointing a firearm, assault and conspiracy.

On March 25, police responded to the incident involving the couple after a gunshot was heard on Descartes Street.

When police arrived on the scene, they located the two victims – who had both sustained injuries caused by physical force, but none by gunshot. They were taken to hospital, but their lives were not considered to be in danger.

“The suspects reportedly fled in a vehicle before the police arrived,” writes the SPVM.

Investigation continues

Montreal Police say the investigation continues to understand the motive behind the assault.

One or more suspects are still being sought in connection to this case.
