One of Montreal’s Tour de l’Île routes for the 2025 event has been cancelled due to ‘logistics.’
Vélo Québec said that construction sites and traffic issues are what geared them towards the cancellation of the 25 km route — adding that the decision was a mutual agreement with the City of Montreal.
Cyclists will therefore have two options: the 50 km or 100 km routes.
“This decision was the result of a combination of factors,” Vélo Québec told CityNews. “We want to emphasize that we have nothing at all against the City — on the contrary, they have been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout the process.”
“Ultimately, though, this was the best choice considering the overall logistics of the event,” they added.
Five routes were originally set to be offered for this year’s Tour de l’Île: 25 km, 50 km, and three “Découverte options” — one of 68,88 km and another at 105 km.
“However, we’ve recently made the difficult decision to cancel the 25 km option,” they said.
Vélo Québec explained that they will be reaching out the participants who have contacted them about the 25 km and provide them with alternative options or a refund.
The annual event, who sees cyclists ride on car-free streets across the city, didn’t always have this 25 km option — it was offered in 2024, but not from 2021 to 2023.
Scheduled to take place on June 1st, this year’s edition will mark the 40th Tour de l’Île.
The Tour la Nuit will take place on May 30 and includes a 25 km option.
