Police say the altercation happened after Zaccagna hit a pedestrian shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the corner of Gouin Boulevard East and Garon Avenue.

The 35-year-old suspect witnessed the accident and got into a fight with the driver, who was unconscious on the ground when police arrived. The SPVM says the reason for the driver’s collapse is still unknown. Zaccagna was declared dead in hospital.

“We know that the driver hit the pedestrian and had a conflict with a witness,” the SPVM told CityNews. “But the thing is we are trying to investigate whether he’s a witness just passing by or was he the driver of a car that was involved in a road rage just before the driver hit the pedestrian.”

Police say the pedestrian was not seriously injured.
