Workers from more than 400 CPE daycares in Quebec to strike this week

Parents of children in 400 Quebec run government daycares will have to find alternate childcare on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The union representing the CSN-affiliated Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux workers confirmed full day strikes following unfruitful negotiations over the weekend. Many haven’t had a contract in over a year.
The Quebec government and the union have been negotiating on a more sustained basis in recent days, but negotiations began several months ago.
At her last press conference, Stéphanie Vachon, union representative for the Early Childhood Centres sector, stated that the only thing standing in the way of a settlement was the salary conditions.
Quebec is sticking to its framework of 17.4 per cent wage increases over five years, the same as those granted to all government employees, and other union organizations representing workers in day-care centers.
