Quebec paramedics called to vote on strike mandate

By Lia Lévesque, The Canadian Press

Paramedics will soon be asked to decide on a strike mandate.

These paramedics are members of unions affiliated with the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS), which is affiliated with the CSN.

The dispute with the various employers concerns pay, overtime, and the pension plan.

Any strike in the ambulance sector is subject to the provisions governing the maintenance of essential services, and these services are highly complex, given the critical importance of the sector.

The Administrative Labor Tribunal has already been called upon to rule on these essential services in the ambulance sector on several occasions.

Last December, when another union organization also representing paramedics announced a walkout, it ruled that priority zero to eight calls should be handled as usual, as should all unplanned interventions.
