Suspected arson at a home renovation site in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent

A home under renovation in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent borough was the site of a suspected arson early Monday morning.

Montreal police received a 911 call at 2:50 a.m. reporting a fire on O’Brien Ave. near Cléroux Street.

“When officers arrived, they discovered a fire that had originated on the garage door,” said police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils, noting the residence was unoccupied at the time.

The fire department responded quickly and managed to extinguish the flames. Incendiary devices were found at the scene.

“Preliminary information suggests a suspect was seen igniting the fire on the garage door before fleeing on foot,” Chèvrefils said.

She also confirmed that a window had been smashed and graffiti had been spray-painted on the front of the house.

The property sustained only minor damage.

The case is now being investigated by the Montreal police arson unit.
