By-election: Éric Duhaime will try his luck in Arthabaska

By Thomas Laberge, The Canadian Press

Quebec Conservative leader Éric Duhaime will attempt to enter the National Assembly by running in the Arthabaska by-election. The riding has been vacant since the resignation of MNA Eric Lefebvre last March.

The information, first reported by TVA, was confirmed by The Canadian Press.

Duhaime will launch his campaign this Sunday in Victoriaville.

The Conservative leader was debating whether to run in Arthabaska or give up his seat to Tarek Henoud. Henoud ran for the Conservatives in the 2022 election. He finished second with 25 per cent of the vote. Eric Lefebvre won the riding with 52 per cent of the vote.

The polling aggregator Qc125 predicts a very close three-way race in the Arthabaska riding between the Coalition avenir Québec, the Parti Québécois, and Éric Duhaime’s Conservatives.

Lefebvre resigned as MP for Arthabaska to run for Pierre Poilievre’s federal Conservatives. He won his seat on Monday.

Premier François Legault has six months to call a by-election.
