Quebec clandestine laboratory: RCMP seize 2.5 million tablets of methamphetamine

By Pierre Saint-Arnaud, The Canadian Press

Federal police have dismantled a major clandestine laboratory believed to have been used to manufacture methamphetamine tablets in a warehouse in Bromont, in the Eastern Townships.

On site, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized no less than 2.5 million tablets of what is believed to be methamphetamine, more than 4 kilos of suspected crystal methamphetamine and large quantities of chemicals used to manufacture the tablets.

The laboratory was equipped with a tablet press and equipment for the large-scale synthesis and manufacturing of the tablets.

Three people were arrested in connection with the investigation and released after questioning, pending further proceedings. The three suspects have not been identified by the RCMP, as they have not yet appeared in court. They face charges of production and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The RCMP would like to remind the public that such labs, which can be found in residences as well as garages and commercial premises, pose a high level of danger not only to those who operate them, but also to their neighbours.
