Agreement in principle for CPE daycares: meetings set for Wednesday, Thursday

We will have to wait a few more days to find out what will become of the agreement in principle that was reached to renew the collective agreement for unionized workers in some 400 childcare centres (CPEs) in Quebec.
The Federal Council of Childcare Centres of the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS), affiliated with the CSN, will meet Wednesday and Thursday this week. This is the interim body before moving on to the member vote, if it so decides.
The agreement in principle between the FSSS and the Treasury Board was reached on May 5, after two conciliation phases: one at the beginning of negotiations in 2024, and the other recently.
The details of this agreement have not been disclosed, as the unions are keeping the details for their members. The dispute at this stage of the negotiations focused primarily on the wage conditions offered to childcare workers.
The FSSS is the last to settle among the four union organizations participating in these national negotiations: the Fédération des intervenantes en petite enfance, affiliated with the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), the Syndicat québécois des employé(e)s de service (SQEES), affiliated with the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ), and the Syndicat des métallos, also affiliated with the FTQ.
