Public Health officials at the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) are informing the public that a person with measles was on board a flight to Montreal from Istanbul, Turkey last week.
This flight, Turkish Airlines flight TK35, landed at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport at 5:37 p.m. on May 7.
People on this flight and at the airport in the arrivals, customs, and baggage areas between 5:45 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. that day may have been exposed to measles, the MSSS explained in a news release.
“All people who were in these areas during this period are considered contacts of measles cases,” the MSSS said.
People who were in those areas at the time are encouraged to call Info-Santé 811 as soon as possible if they or their children who were also present are part of the following groups:
- Infants under one year of age
- People with weakened immune systems
- Pregnant people who have not been adequately vaccinated against measles
“These people may receive preventive treatment, if necessary,” the MSSS said.
They’re also reminding the public that in the current context of the measles outbreak in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada, the MSSS encourages the public to ensure their vaccination status is up to date.
“Vaccination remains the best way to protect against measles,” they said.
