Roads half full: Here are Greater Montreal’s worst roads of 2025

The results had to take a detour, but they have finally arrived.

CAA-Quebec unveiled the province’s worst roads of 2025, and the residents of the Greater Montreal area can continue feeling pleased with themselves.

The streets in the region avoided the infamy of being ranked among the worst roads in the province once again — something they have managed since 2019 when Gouin East Boulevard topped the list for the second time in a row.

This year’s claim to the bumpiest road went to La Tuque’s Chemin du Contour-du-Lac-à-Beauce based on votes by road users. It was the second worst in last year’s ranking.

Montrealers’ relief might be short-lived, however, as Mobilité Montréal announced 44 major roadwork projects just this week, sparking worries among motorists and businesses who fear losing revenue when their shops are inaccessible or when restaurants can’t have terraces.

The fatigue of orange cones is felt by many in the province.

According to a CAA-Quebec member survey, 79 per cent of respondents said that they were in favour of temporarily suspending new road development projects until issues with the existing infrastructure are fixed.

CAA-Quebec has been ranking worst roads since 2015. In releasing the 10th edition of its Worst Roads campaign this year, Nicolas Ryan, director of public affairs and media relations at CAA-Quebec, said the roadside assistance and insurance provider was doing it to call to attention the resources that need to be invested for fixing the roads.

“Everyone wants a better road network, but resources are limited. Our campaign is an annual reminder that choices need to be made, often between maintaining the current network and expanding it,” he said.

While the region may not have representation in top 10 in the provincial ranking, residents of Greater Montreal rated their own pothole-filled streets.

Montreal

1- Notre-Dame East Street
2- Boulevard de l’Acadie
3- Ellerdale Street (Hampstead)

Laval

1- Boulevard de la Concorde Est
2- Boulevard des Mille-Îles
3- Marc-Aurèle-Fortin Boulevard

Montérégie

1- Route 116 (managed by ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD))
2- Autoroute 30 (managed by MTMD)
3- Grande Allée
3- Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes

The ranking was based on voting by over 3,000 road users conducted between April 2-27 by CAA-Quebec on worstroads.com.

Since 2015, when the rankings were first released, Montreal and Montérégie have made the top charts five times and Laval once in 2018.

Montreal’s Gouin East Boulevard was rated the worst road provincially in 2018 and 2019. Meanwhile, Chemin de la Grande-Ligne in Montérégie took the crown in 2021.
