Police investigate vehicle fire in Rosemont

A vehicle was on fire late Monday night in Montreal’s Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) received a report around 3:20 a.m. about a car ablaze on Bélanger Street, near Sagard Street.

By the time officers arrived, firefighters from the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal had already brought the flames under control. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was completely destroyed, according to SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.

Due to the unknown cause of the fire, the case has been handed over to the SPVM’s arson unit. The vehicle was towed for further inspection and evaluation.

This incident comes just one night after an SUV was destroyed in a suspected arson attack in the same Rosemont area.

Authorities say there is currently no evidence linking the two events or confirming a criminal motive at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
