Unionized STM maintenance workers plan to strike as of June 9

The STM Maintenance Employees’ Union has announced a strike starting June 9, which could coincide with the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Montreal.
The duration of the strike is not yet known; the union stated Thursday that it will be “confirmed in the coming days.”
This is the union’s second attempt at striking at the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), after the court prevented it from carrying out its planned strike last week.
The Maintenance Employees’ Union then wanted to shut down the metro for a day, offering no essential services for the metro, only buses. The Administrative Labour Tribunal refused, deeming the offer of essential services insufficient in this case.
This time, the Fédération des employés des services publics union, affiliated with the CSN and representing approximately 2,400 maintenance workers, has announced a strike starting June 9.
The Administrative Labour Tribunal will assess the availability of essential services to be maintained during the strike. The Tribunal must decide whether the planned essential services would be sufficient to avoid endangering public health or safety.
