Quebec residential construction strike: APCHQ tables new offer

By Lia Lévesque, The Canadian Press

The APCHQ reports that it tabled a new offer to the Alliance syndicale, as part of the negotiations that went on all day Monday, and even part of the night from Monday to Tuesday. No agreement was reached.

The Quebec residential construction strike has now lasted two weeks. It began on May 28.

The offer includes an eight per cent wage increase for the year 2025. For the years 2026 to 2028, a board of arbitration would be called upon to decide on the wage increases to be paid.

Total increases for the four years, from 2025 to 2028, should be between 18 per cent and 22 per cent, including 2025, according to the proposal unveiled Tuesday by the employers’ association, in a message to its members.

A breakthrough seemed to have been reached last Wednesday, when the Alliance syndicale spoke of “significant progress” during direct discussions with the APCHQ. This led the Alliance to consider submitting the matter to its members for their opinion.

But the APCHQ explained that these were “exploratory” exchanges between the two parties, outside the context of mediation. The mediator therefore called the parties together on Monday to continue negotiations. It was then that the APCHQ tabled its new offer.
