STM resumes regular service for Grand Prix weekend in Montreal

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and its maintenance workers are ensuring that public transportation operates at full capacity during Grand Prix weekend – amid the union’s strike. The measure is intended to support both public safety and smooth traffic flow, they’ve said.

In addition to regular metro service, special shuttle buses will run between the Old Port and Île Sainte-Hélène to accommodate increased demand.

Final departures of the REM toward Brossard will be at 1:10 a.m. on Friday and Sunday nights (technically Saturday and Monday mornings), and at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday night into Sunday.

The Grand Prix site is accessible via the Jean-Drapeau station on the Yellow Line.

The STM advises riders to plan their trips carefully and purchase tickets in advance whenever possible to avoid delays.

Mediation begins Monday

The first formal mediation session between the STM and the union representing striking maintenance workers is scheduled for next Monday.

The mediator is to meet with both sides – separately on Friday – before the June 16 joint session.

Reduced service—operating at 50 per cent—will resume on Monday and Tuesday.

The nine-day strike by the Syndicat de transport de Montréal, affiliated with the CSN, is currently set to end on June 17.

The full schedule can be found at stm.info.
