CAQ falls further behind Liberals as PLQ gains momentum under new leader Pablo Rodriguez: poll

By News Staff

According to a new Léger poll, the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) once again stands at the third spot in voting intentions in the province, but is now 11 points behind the Liberals, compared to being one point behind them in the last survey. The Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) saw recent gains since Pablo Rodriguez was announced its new leader.

The survey also revealing that the Parti Québecois (PQ) continues to hold a lead in public support, at 30 per cent. The PLQ is close behind at 28 per cent — this is a seven point jump since the last survey and an increased support in one month since Rodriguez took the helm.

Even if the PQ has lost some ground — standing at 33 per cent before — if elections were held today, the poll indicates that they would still form a majority government due to its strength among the French-speaking electorate.

The new poll also showing that the CAQ continues to plummet in voting intentions. François Legault’s party has reached their lowest score in 11 years and are on the way to becoming a third party.

Now at 17 per cent support among Quebecers, the CAQ saw a three point drop since the last survey.

The poll also showing that 50 per cent of respondents want Legault to leave office — with 28 per cent of people satisfied with his leadership.

According to the survey, a majority of Quebecers want Legault to step down as leader of the CAQ, a party he founded a little over 14 years ago.
