A man in his 40s is in critical condition after suffering serious injuries in a collision on a highway in Labelle, in the Laurentians.

Emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident around 6 a.m., at kilometer 143 on Route 117, explained Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, information officer for the Sûreté du Québec.

The accident involved “two vehicles heading south,” according to Marquis-Guy.

A vehicle traveling southbound on the road is believed to have collided with a heavy goods vehicle that had stopped on the right-hand hard shoulder, according to initial police reports.
