Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a possible robbery in downtown Montreal on Thursday morning – and a gunshot was heard.
A call came into 911 around 11:45 a.m. about the incident outside a department store on Sainte-Catherine Street, near Metcalf Street.
It seems that a conflict broke out between a store employee – a security guard – and a young man suspected of stealing from the store.
“The suspect pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot before fleeing on foot, and at least one shell (casing) was found on the ground,” said Manuel Couture, a spokesperson for the SPVM. “No one was injured and the suspect remains at large.”

Investigators were on the scene meeting witnesses Thursday afternoon, as well as checking surveillance cameras to better understand what happened.
The store in question is believed to be Simons. CityNews has reached out to management for comment, but have not heard back.
