The Administrative Labour Court has just issued its decision regarding the essential services – which are very extensive – that will have to be provided by paramedics who are due to go on strike starting at 00:01 on 6 July.
35 notices of indefinite strikes have been issued so far in several cities across Quebec by unions of the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux, affiliated with the CSN.
The strike will take the form of essentially administrative pressure tactics, for example affecting forms submitted to the employer.
The Court therefore ruled that all priority 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 calls must be handled in the usual manner. Priority 8 calls will be handled in the usual manner, except for home calls, which will only be handled between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Also, the aeromedical service will be maintained at all times.
The work of qualified managers to perform the tasks of the striking paramedics will be limited to four hours per week. The union attempted to increase the number of hours these managers were required to work, but the court refused.
