The by-election in the riding of Arthabaska, in Centre-du-Québec, will take place Aug. 11.
The battle promises to be fierce between the leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ), Éric Duhaime, and former Radio-Canada host Alex Boissonneault, who is running for the Parti Québécois (PQ).

According to the polling aggregator Qc125, the PCQ and the PQ are currently tied with 37 per cent support.

François Legault’s Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) is counting on Keven Brasseur, a former president of the party’s youth commission.

Québec solidaire (QS) has announced that Pascale Fortin, a health-care worker, will represent its party. Only the Quebec Liberal Party has yet to announce a candidate.

The by-election was triggered following the resignation of Eric Lefebvre, who was elected last April as a Conservative Party of Canada MP.
The Arthabaska riding has been held by the Coalition Avenir Québec since 2012.
