Montreal police (SPVM) say a 21-year-old man is in hospital after a stabbing in Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough Wednesday night.

Multiple 911 calls were made at 10 p.m. about an armed assault on the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Montcalm streets.

“Police responded to several 911 calls concerning a fight involving several people,” said Manuel Couture, a SPVM spokesperson.

He added that upon arrival of officers to the scene, a suspect who fled on foot was pursued by police.

“He was finally arrested, not far from the scene,” explained Couture. “He had to be subdued with a stun gun.”

At the initial scene, police had located the 21-year-old victim with an upper body injury caused by a sharp object.

The two people, victim and suspect, were transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A security perimeter was established, an investigation is ongoing.
