Police report shot fired in Old Montreal Sunday

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a gunshot was heard near the Jacques-Cartier pier on Sunday evening.

At around 11 p.m. police, who were already on-site, said they heard a gunshot and saw a crowd disperse.

Witnesses say they saw what appeared to be two gangs in a conflict.

Police say they found at least one shell casting at the scene.

No injuries or arrests were made.

Anna, a Montrealer that reached out to CityNews, says she was present when it happened and said when the gun initially went off the crowd thought it was a firework.

“Then I saw a mother, grandmother, and two boys 6 and 7-years-old crying, they too had witnessed it; I was hugging them along with their mother trying to console them,” said Anna. “They are traumatized. It was horrific. I was terrified, I couldn’t sleep all night. What was a nice evening in one of my favourite parts of Montreal has turned into a nightmare.”

Investigators were sent to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
