Man dies after being hit by car in downtown Montreal

A man in his 30s died after being struck by a vehicle near the entrance to an underground parking garage in downtown Montreal on Tuesday evening.

The Montreal Police (SPVM) reports that the incident took place around 9:50 p.m. on Boisbriand Street, near Hôtel-de-Ville Ave., in the Ville-Marie borough.

“According to initial information received, the driver of the vehicle was travelling on Boisbriand Street and struck the individual who was possibly on the ground, near an underground parking entrance,” explained officer Jeanne Drouin, who is a spokesperson for the SPVM, Wednesday morning.

Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics responded to the scene. The victim was unconscious and seriously injured. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The identity of the victim could still not be confirmed by police on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was not physically injured. He was interviewed by SPVM investigators, as were witnesses to the scene.

“For the moment, the event is not believed to be criminal in nature,” said Constable Drouin.
