Heat warning in effect for Montreal, feeling like 40°C today

By News Staff & The Canadian Press

Another day of punishing heat and humidity is hitting Montreal.

A heat warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is in effect for the city today — with temperatures expected to feel like 40°C.

This comes after Sunday’s extreme heat set new records in several regions of Quebec. In Montreal, the mercury climbed to 34.4°C, beating the previous record of 32.8°C set back in 1944.

“Maximum temperatures between 30°C and 34°C combined with high humidity will generate humidex values near 40°C,” said ECCC. “Nights will also be warm, with overnight lows of 20°C or more providing little relief.”

This will go on until Tuesday, they explained.

“Conditions will begin to improve during the day on Wednesday,” they added.

Sunny skies are forecasted for Monday and Tuesday — then showers are expected to fall over the city on Wednesday with a daytime high of 26°C.

The sun should then make its return for the rest of the week.

A high of 27°C on Thursday, with clear skies at night and a low of 13°C.

More sunshine to end the week, with a daytime high of 26°C on Friday.

ECCC recommends monitoring for signs of heat exhaustion, as well as drinking water in these conditions.
