Montreal road closures to keep in mind for long weekend

Mobilité Montréal is informing road users that major disruptions are expected during the Labour Day long weekend.

“The Ministry and its partners recommend planning ahead,” they explained in a news release.

HONORÉ-MERCIER BRIDGE / ROUTE 138

From Friday 11 p.m. to Monday 7 a.m.

Contraflow traffic on the bridge toward Montreal (downstream bridge) – one lane in each direction.

Default: Airlie Street access / reserved lane to R-138 West.

Detour: via Lafleur Avenue and Clément Street. For the reserved lane, detour via Trésor-Caché Avenue, Lasalle Blvd., des Oblats Street, Airlie Street and follow the detour via Lafleur Avenue and Clément Street.

HIGHWAY 25 / LOUIS-HIPPOLYTE-LA FONTAINE TUNNEL

From Friday 11 p.m. to Saturday 8 a.m.

Complete tunnel closure at Exit 90 (R-132) on A-20 West in Longueuil (northbound) and at Exit 5 (Sherbrooke Street) in Montreal (southbound).
Northbound.

Detour: via R-132 West, Exit 82 / Jacques-Cartier Bridge, downtown exit to De Lorimier Avenue South and Notre-Dame Street. Trucks: on Notre Dame Street, via Pie-IX Blvd. and Sherbrooke Street.

Default: 30 minutes before

R-132 East and West ramps (exits 89-N) to A-25 North. Detour eastbound via Exit 137 (De Montarville Blvd).

Access from Île-Charron Street. Detour via A-25 South and R-132 West.
Note: Access to Île Charron from the Marie-Victorin Blvd. accesses to A-25 North will be rerouted.

Curatteau Street: From 10 p.m., complete closure at Notre-Dame Street. Detour: Eastbound via Joseph-Versailles Blvd. and Sherbrooke Street, and westbound via Dickson and Hochelaga Streets.

SAINTE-CROIX AVENUE

From Friday 10 p.m. to Tuesday 5 a.m.

In Montreal (Saint-Laurent Borough) and Town of Mount Royal, Sainte-Croix Avenue is completely closed in both directions, between Côte-de-Liesse Road West and Dion Street.

Detour: Northbound via Côte-de-Liesse Road West, Décarie Blvd. North, Côte-Vertu Blvd., and Sainte-Croix Avenue. Southbound via Dion Street, Décarie Blvd. South, Marcel-Laurin Turnbride, Côte-de-Liesse Road West, Devonshire Road, and Côte-de-Liesse Road East.

Note: On Sainte-Croix Avenue North, under the A-40, one lane is open.

Trucks: On Sainte-Croix Avenue North, left turn prohibited onto Côte-de-Liesse Road West. Detour via Dion Street, Décarie Blvd. South, and the turnaround on Marcel-Laurin Blvd.

CÔTE-DE-LIESSE ROAD WEST

From Friday 10 p.m. to Tuesday 5 a.m.

In Montreal (Saint-Laurent Borough) and Town of Mount Royal, on Côte-de-Liesse Road West, partial closure of 3 out of 4 lanes, between Houde Street and Sainte-Croix Avenue.

Default: accesses from Hébert, Laperrière, and Houde Streets.

Detour: via Grou, Houde, and Hodge Streets, and Montpellier Blvd.

Risk of traffic slowdowns in the area – plan ahead. Work is under the responsibility of Hydro-Québec on the municipal network.

SAINT-JACQUES STREET

From Friday 10 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.

In Montreal (Le Sud-Ouest borough), complete closure of eastbound Saint-Jacques Street, between des Seigneurs and Guy Streets.
Detour: des Seigneurs Street, Notre-Dame Street, Guy Street, and Saint-Jacques Street.

Optional: via Atwater Avenue North, René-Lévesque Blvd., Guy Street, and Saint-Jacques Street.

Trucks: via Atwater Avenue South, Saint-Patrick Street, Thomas-Keefer Street, Atwater Avenue North, Notre-Dame Street, de la Montagne Street, and Saint-Jacques Street.

Note: Local traffic permitted between Atwater Avenue and Saint-Martin Street.

REM, August 30 and 31 (CNW Group/Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility)

METROPOLITAN EXPRESS NETWORK – REM

Planned service interruptions are expected this weekend. The network will therefore be completely closed on Aug. 30 and 31. Shuttles will be available to cover various routes in the absence of the REM.

PAPINEAU AVENUE (VILLE-MARIE BOROUGH) IN MONTREAL

In Montreal (Ville-Marie Borough), partial closure of one of two lanes on Papineau Avenue northbound, between Sainte-Rose Street and de Maisonneuve Blvd., Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Work under the responsibility of the City of Montreal,” Mobilité Montréal said in the news release.

DE LORIMIER AVENUE (VILLE-MARIE BOROUGH) IN MONTREAL

In Montreal (Ville-Marie Borough), complete closure of northbound De Lorimier Avenue, between Sainte-Catherine Street East and de Maisonneuve Blvd. East, from Sunday, Aug. 31 to Monday, Sept. 15.

Detour: via Sainte-Catherine Street East, Frontenac Street northbound, and Sherbrooke Street westbound. For users approaching Notre-Dame Street, detour via Notre-Dame Street East, Frontenac Street northbound, and Sherbrooke Street westbound.

DE MAISONNEUVE BLVD. (VILLE-MARIE BOROUGH) IN MONTREAL

In Montreal (Ville-Marie Borough), partial closure of two out of three lanes of de Maisonneuve Blvd. East, between Parthenais Street and De Lorimier Avenue, from Sunday, Aug. 31 to Monday, Sept. 15.

REMINDER

HIGHWAY 40 / BETWEEN BERTHIERVILLE AND LANORAIE

“A contraflow traffic order is in effect on Highway 40, between Route 158 in Berthierville and Chemin de Joliette in Lanoraie,” reminded Mobilité Montréal. “Therefore, one lane in each direction is available.”

“Congestion is expected in the area,” they added.

For travel between Trois-Rivières and Montreal, the Ministry recommends using Highway 20.

“This configuration is necessary due to the collapse of a culvert located under the westbound lanes of the roadway,” they said.

HIGHWAY 40 / TERREBONNE (LACHENAIE) AND CHARLEMAGNE

Between Charles-De Gaulle Bridge and A-640, structural redevelopment, Feu Creek – until the end of September. Traffic on detoured lanes at all times, with five of six lanes available, depending on peak traffic:

  • Three westbound lanes / Montreal and two eastbound: from 11:59 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following day, weekdays
  • Three eastbound lanes / Quebec City and two westbound: from noon to 10 p.m., weekdays and weekends
  • Configuration change: Sunday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and noon

BONAVENTURE EXPRESSWAY / JCCBI SECTOR

Closure of Pointe-Nord Road / de l’Île-des-Sœurs Blvd. / Jacques-Leber Street to A-10 West / Downtown until September.

Detour via A-15 North / Exit 60 to Gaétan-Laberge Blvd.

At Peel Basin / Victoria Bridge, closure of one of three lanes in each direction until December.

On Clément Bridge, contraflow traffic – one lane in each direction – until December.

“Please note: Trucks: at the end of the Samuel De Champlain Bridge, at Exit 58 toward Highway 10 West/Downtown, one lane out of two will be closed, and the lane width will be four meters,” Mobilité Montréal said in the news release.

“In the event of adverse weather conditions or operational constraints, work may be canceled or modified,” they added. “Check Quebec511.info regularly for current and upcoming disruptions.”
