SAAQ authorizes lifting of professional secrecy for investigations into SAAQclic

By The Canadian Press

The SAAQ’s board of directors has authorized the lifting of professional secrecy and the disclosure of any legal advice, opinions, and counsel that could assist the Gallant Commission in its investigation into the financing of SAAQclic.

Investigators from the Autorité des marchés publics and the Unité permanente anticorruption will also have access to this information.

“We are all driven by a single goal: the search for the truth. As soon as we were made aware of the issue of access to certain documents, both the interim president and CEO and the board of directors took the necessary steps to resolve the matter quickly,” said Dominique Savoie, chair of the SAAQ’s board of directors.

The Quebec auto insurance board digital shift, which includes the SAAQclic platform, is expected to cost at least $1.1 billion, according to the Auditor General of Quebec.

The initial budget for the project was $638 million when it was launched in 2017.

Premier François Legault is scheduled to testify before the commission on Tuesday.
