By News Staff

As the rain came down Thursday afternoon in Quebec, power outages spread across the province.

By 6:30 p.m. over 66,000 Hydro-Québec customers were off the grid – and the number kept fluctuating.

The hardest hit regions included Lanaudière (26,000), the Laurentides (almost 18,000), and the Montérégie (10,000).

The numbers in Laval and Montreal were at about 4,500 households in the dark. The Lachine borough was hardest in the city, with close to 2,000 of the outages and in Laval, it was the Chomedey sector with 2,800 clients without electricity.

By around 10:30 p.m., there were still more than 50,000 in the dark across the province.

The rain in Montreal came down late in the day, with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasting showers ending near midnight with a risk of thunderstorms this evening for the city. About 10 to 15 mm is expected to fall.

Mainly sunny skies on Friday, but more rain likely for Saturday and Sunday.
