Overtime strike by STM maintenance workers announced

The union representing maintenance employees at the STM has announced a second strike. This time, it will take the form of a 14-day overtime refusal, starting Sept. 22.

This union represents 2,400 maintenance employees, including those who previously walked out from June 9 to 17. It is affiliated with the Fédération des employés des services publics, an affiliate of the CSN.

The union states that in addition to the overtime refusal, “slowdowns and service disruptions are expected on certain days, even if services are maintained during rush hours.”

In a statement to CityNews, STM said it will maintain some basic services based on an agreement submitted to the Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT).

“Paratransit service is maintained at all times; A certain level of bus and métro service is maintained,” STM said. Details about the impact of other will be announced later.

The union notes that 98 negotiation meetings have been held to date, without reaching an agreement to renew the collective agreement.
