Quebec Minister of Families and MNA for Verchères, Suzanne Roy, confirms that she will not be a candidate in the 2026 election, as she is “slowly moving toward retirement.”
Roy made the announcement Monday morning in a Facebook post addressed to the residents of her riding.
In her post, Roy explained that she made the decision not to seek re-election after much consideration. She informed Premier François Legault of her choice in early July.
The 63-year-old MNA assures that she will remain in office until the Oct. 2026 election, but indicates that she will then head toward retirement.
This announcement comes as Legault is scheduled to conduct a highly anticipated cabinet reshuffle this week. It will reportedly take place Wednesday.
Several media outlets, including Radio-Canada, reported Monday morning that Roy will not be part of the next cabinet, as she will be leaving politics in 2026.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, André Lamontagne, will also be stepping down from cabinet.

The former Minister of Municipal Affairs, Andrée Laforest, left her position last week to run for mayor of Saguenay.
Before being elected under the Coalition avenir Québec banner in 2022, Roy was mayor of Sainte-Julie from 2005 to 2021. She also served two terms as president of the Union des municipalités du Québec.
In addition to being Minister of Families, Roy was also the minister responsible for the Montérégie region.
