Man killed in construction zone collision in Maria, Gaspésie: the SQ is investigating

A collision between two vehicles in a construction zone left one person dead late Friday evening in Maria, Gaspésie.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11:30 p.m. on Perron Boulevard, near Des Engoulevents Street, on the waterfront.
“According to initial reports, a vehicle travelling eastbound on Boulevard Perron collided with a vehicle that was stopped at a red light in the same direction,” explained Laurie Avoine, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The victim was a resident of the Gesgapegiag Indigenous reserve. The man, in his 20s, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The other driver, a man in his 30s, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, but his life is not in danger.
“A police officer trained in collision investigation went to the scene to clarify the circumstances of the event,” said Avoine.
The SQ investigation is ongoing.
