CAQ activists want to crack down on certain protesters

By Patrice Bergeron, The Canadian Press

CAQ activists want to clamp down on the excesses of certain protests.

The resolution book for the upcoming Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) convention proposes banning masked protests and establishing buffer zones to prohibit demonstrations around certain sensitive locations.

These proposals follow François Legault’s speech during the presentation of his new cabinet last week.

The premier defended law and order and said he wanted to ensure the safety of citizens.

In addition, activists will also be asked to vote to punish the possession of dangerous objects at gatherings, as well as to ban encampments on public or private property in order to maintain order and safety.

The resolution book specifically refers to the camps that had been set up on the grounds of McGill University.

The CAQ convention will take place on the weekend of September 27 and 28 in Gatineau. It will be preceded by a caucus meeting of government officials.
