Wednesday marks the second day of the STM maintenance workers’ strike.
Buses and metros are running on reduced schedules three days a week which is likely to disrupt commuters especially off-peak hours.
Some 2,400 maintenance workers will be on a rotating strike until Oct. 5.
On strike days — Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — metro service runs during three limited windows: morning (6:30–9:30 a.m.), afternoon (2:45–5:45 p.m.), and late night (11 p.m. to closing). On those days, essentially no metros are available between 9:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. and between 5:45 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Bus service is also reduced. No STM buses will be running between 9:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. as well as between 6 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the weeks of Sept. 21 and Sept. 28. Paratransit services remain fully operational
Riders are urged to check the STM’s website for updated schedules and plan extra travel time.
Negotiations between the STM and maintenance workers remain at a standstill; main points of contention include untraditional work schedules and salary increases.
