Projet Montréal plans to make toilets more publicly accessible if elected

Thursday, Projet Montréal leader and mayoral candidate, Luc Rabouin, announced that he and his party will be looking to add new public toilets – if they are elected in November.
Projet Montréal says they want Montrealers and tourists to be able to find free public toilets within a 15-minute walk anywhere in the city.
They say this will allow the city to be more inclusive, more user-friendly, and easier to live in, and is part of their vision where every Montrealer has access to essential services nearby.
“Having access to clean and accessible restrooms is not a luxury: it is a basic necessity for a hassle-free life. When we want seniors to be able to leave their homes without worry, parents to find a simple solution when an outing takes longer than expected, or everyone to be able to enjoy their city with dignity, we need nearby sanitary facilities. That’s also what simplifying the city is all about,” said Rabouin.
Projet Montréal says they would be looking to enhance maintenance of existing toilets in park chalets and municipal buildings, adding 20 self-cleaning toilets in the city’s more frequented locations and 40 chemical toilets in busy parks and public squares.
Additionally, they are looking to create a group of merchants who are willing to open their restrooms to the public, and create new signage for the public to be able to find their nearest restroom.
Projet Montréal says this project is estimated to cost around $8.3 million.
